Wavensmere Homes and Project Furniture Residential have reimagined the historic Engine House into a hybrid commercial hub that blends public gallery experiences with executive operations. The layout thoughtfully partitions the industrial footprint to host high-impact residential launch events and daily sales journeys, alongside private first-floor offices, bespoke kitchen/WC facilities, and a landmark boardroom. Every spatial detail has been designed to communicate Wavensmere’ s broader vision for the surrounding regeneration masterplan.
Working alongside historic conservation officers, the design embraces "Heritage Re-imagined’’ juxtaposing raw brickwork and industrial proportions with refined, tactile interior finishes. Inspired by the site’s working legacy powering the neighbouring Bonded Warehouse, the scheme incorporates robust furniture typologies, curated architectural antiques, and hand-crafted typography artwork by a local sign writer. The double-height volume and interplay of natural light are leveraged to create defined zones that feel both grandly historic and aspirational.
The Engine House stands as a physical bridge between heritage and future living. By merging rugged industrial character with curated luxury, Wavensmere Homes with the support of Project Furniture Residential have created an iconic destination that offers prospective buyers an immediate taste of the quality, craft, and lifestyle defining the entire development - serving as the ultimate interior design inspiration for the commercial spaces soon to follow inside the adjacent Bonded Warehouse.
“It has been a pleasure working with Project Furniture Residential on the Engine House project. From the initial concept through to installation, they consistently exceeded our expectations and delivered a finished scheme that we are incredibly proud of.
What really stood out was the attention to detail throughout. It’s the little finishing touches that bring a space to life from the carefully considered font used for the wayfinding, through to the bespoke hand dryers in the bathrooms. Those details might seem small, but they make a real difference to the overall experience and quality of the scheme.
Alistair, Lauren and the wider Project Furniture team understood the character of the building and the vision we had for the development, while bringing their own creativity and expertise to every stage of the process. The team were a pleasure to work with, and the end result is a space that feels considered, distinctive and genuinely memorable.
We look forward to working with Project Furniture Residential again on future projects.”
